What is Winsor Kaizen? As discussed more fully in the page entitled "What is Kaizen?", kaizen is a Japanese word meaning "constant change for the better." The Deming Cycle (or Wheel) Winsor Kaizen is a system of business coaching designed and initially implemented by business coach, Michael Winsor. Winsor Kaizen, the methodology used by Main Street Coach, applies the Deming Cycle of Plan, Do, Check, Act (depicted here) to essential business components to achieve dramatic, rapid business transformations. The 5 Key Business Components
Winsor Kaizen applies the Deming Cycle (PDCA) to each of 5 Key Business Components in a client’s business to achieve meaningful, measurable incremental changes to each component. Main Street Coach will use the Winsor Kaizen model to assist you in analyzing your business in connection with its 5 Key Business Components. These are: Fundamental Functionality; Marketing; Presentation and Delivery; Operational Systems; and Team/Leadership. The 5 Key Business Components (5KBC) are depicted within the Winsor Kaizen Coaching Model as follows:
The Why
Main Street Coach applies the coaching model to the 5KBC to achieve rapid, dramatic advances toward achievement of “The Why,” or the purpose for which business was created. Common goals include freedom, time, economic achievements, travel, legacy and recognition. Coaches assist clients in designing and implementing strategies, tactics and systems which are measurable and move the client in the direction of “The Why.” The Why represents the chief aim of the business and is depicted within the Winsor Kaizen Coaching Model as follows:
The Fence
All businesses are contained within a “fence” of their own creation. Business size, growth, productivity and profit are all limited by the boundary created by “The Fence.” The Fence is maintained by the existence of five posts which determine the extent of the boundary (or the limitation to the size, growth, productivity and profit of the business). These posts are: Leads; Conversion Rate; Price; Frequency; and Profit Margin. The movement of any single post (either outward or inward) will reestablish the boundary of the entire Fence. In other words, an increase in leads to the business of 50% will create a 50% gain in the business if all other factors remain the same. An increase in two or more posts simultaneously will result in exponential growth. The Main Street Coach assists his/her client in design and implementation of strategies, tactics and systems to create measurable improvement in each post within The Fence. Often, a well chosen improvement in a single optimal post will create widespread improvement to the business with minimal effort, cost and disruption to standard routines. The Fence is depicted within the Winsor Kaizen Coaching Model as follows:
The Complete Winsor Kaizen Coaching Model
Finally, the application of the Deming Cycle to each of the 5KBCs, The Why and The Fence results in a business culture which seeks constant, unending measurable improvement in all facets of its day to day operations. Owners and employees alike gain greater focus on the big picture of the business and are empowered to make measurable changes in the direction of systematized, predictable improvements. The Coaching Process is depicted within the Winsor Kaizen Coaching Model as follows:
